Hari Valdez, 34, was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 25, after Croton-on-Hudson Police linked him to unauthorized bank transactions totaling $13,000, the department said on Friday, Feb. 28.
The case began earlier in February, when a Croton resident reported two fraudulent withdrawals totaling $4,000 from their bank account. As detectives investigated, they uncovered four additional fraudulent transactions connected to businesses in New Rochelle and the Bronx. Surveillance footage helped identify Valdez as the suspect, according to police.
The fraudulent charges totaled around $13,000, the department said.
The fraud allegations aren't the only legal trouble Valdez has faced in recent weeks; he was also charged in New Rochelle on Tuesday, Feb. 25, for allegedly setting fire to his ex-wife's BMW inside a parking garage on Sunday, Feb. 16, as Daily Voice reported.
In that case, authorities said Valdez fled the scene, prompting an investigation that led to a search warrant and his arrest on arson charges, according to New Rochelle Police.
New Rochelle police arrested Valdez for the arson case before turning him over to Croton-on-Hudson authorities, who charged him with:
- Third-degree grand larceny;
- Four counts of fourth-degree grand larceny;
- Petit larceny.
He was arraigned in Croton-on-Hudson Justice Court and released on his own recognizance.
